Making the Icelandic Constitution

With the Director of the film, Eileen Jerrett

November 11, 2026 / 18:00-20:00 / Room 301, Building 10, Sophia University

Film: What happens when the writing of a nation's constitution is opened to public participation? The documentary Blueberry Soup takes viewers inside Iceland's historic constitutional reform process, where national forums, a citizen-led Constitutional Council, and social media brought new approaches to democracy into practice following the 2008 financial collapse.

Bio: Eileen Jerrett is an American documentary filmmaker, archivist, and PhD researcher at the University of Iceland. Since 2009, she has documented Iceland's citizen-led constitutional reform and the cultural movement surrounding it. She created Blueberry Soup (2013), which has screened at institutions in more than 15 countries and aired on Icelandic national television. She also produced A New Society (2019) and co-founded KRIA, the Icelandic Constitution Archive, which preserves the history and cultural expressions of the reform movement. She currently serves as Director of Archives and Recording at StoryCorps, home to the world's largest collection of recorded human voices. Her film and archival work examines how people organize for change, how institutions respond, and what endures.
