Not the End of the Story （終わらない物語）:

Conversation on Sexual Violence, Media, and Feminist Futures（性暴力、メディア、フェミニズムの未来を考える）

Over the past decade, feminist movements, survivor activism, and public debate have transformed how sexual violence is discussed in Japan. From grassroots campaigns of #MeToo to recent legal reforms, such as the 2023 revision of the Penal Code, important changes have emerged in both public discourse and institutional frameworks.

Yet these developments do not mark the end of the conversation. Recent cases, including the 2025 Fuji TV scandal, continue to reveal the persistence of secondary victimisation, media sensationalism, and structural barriers surrounding sexual violence.

Bringing together artists, activists, journalists, and researchers, this weekend event at Sophia University reflects on the achievements of past feminist interventions while asking what kinds of responsibility, care, and institutional transformation are still necessary for the future. The conversation around sexual violence must continue — not only as a matter of law, but also as a question of culture, media, and collective ethics.

この10年で、日本における性暴力をめぐる議論は大きく変化してきました。#MeTooをはじめとする草の根の運動、サバイバーによる声の発信、そして2023年の刑法改正などを通じて、性暴力をどのように語り、どのように社会として向き合うのかについて、重要な変化が生まれています。

しかし、こうした変化は、この問題の「終わり」を意味するものではありません。2025年のフジテレビ問題が示すように、二次加害、メディアによる過剰な報道、そして性暴力を取り巻く構造的な課題はいまもなお残されています。

本週末イベントでは、アーティスト、アクティビスト、ジャーナリスト、研究者が集まり、これまでのフェミニスト運動や社会的な取り組みの成果を振り返るとともに、これからどのような責任、ケア、制度的変化が必要なのかを考えます。性暴力をめぐる対話は、法制度の問題にとどまらず、文化、メディア、そして私たちの社会の倫理を問うものとして、これからも続けていく必要があります。

Nearly a decade after the emergence of feminist “believe” campaigns in Japan, conversations surrounding sexual violence continue to evolve. While public awareness has grown and important legal reforms have been introduced, recent incidents and ongoing research continue to reveal the persistence of stigma, secondary victimisation, and structural inequalities surrounding sexual violence.

This event welcomes the Tomorrow Girls’ Troop to reflect on its activist interventions in the late 2010s and the political significance of feminist campaigns that sought to make survivors’ voices visible and heard.

Rather than looking back on these movements as a completed chapter, the discussion asks what artistic and activist practices can still offer in the present moment. How do art and visual culture shape public conversations about sexual violence? What forms of solidarity, visibility, and care remain necessary today? And how might feminist activism continue to respond to changing social and media environments? Following the talk, art historian from Fordham University in New York, Dr Asato Ikeda, will join as discussant to further explore the relationship between art, activism, memory, and the future of feminist engagement against sexual violence.

The event will be held in Japanese with an English interpreter.  

日本でフェミニストによる「Believe（信じる）」キャンペーンが広がってから、まもなく10年が経とうとしています。その間、性暴力をめぐる社会的な認識は高まり、重要な法改正も進んできました。しかし近年の出来事や調査研究は、性暴力を取り巻くスティグマ、二次加害、構造的な不平等がいまなお根強く残っていることを示しています。

本イベントでは、Tomorrow Girls’ Troopをお迎えし、2010年代後半に同グループが展開したアクティビズムと、サバイバーの声を可視化し、社会に届けようとしたフェミニスト・キャンペーンの政治的意義について振り返ります。

同時に、本イベントはこれらの運動を「過去の成果」として語るだけでなく、芸術やアクティビズムが現在においてなお何を可能にするのかを考えます。アートや視覚文化は、性暴力をめぐる公共的な議論をどのように形づくるのか。今日、どのような連帯、可視性、ケアが必要とされているのか。そして、変化し続ける社会やメディア環境のなかで、フェミニスト・アクティビズムはいかに応答し続けることができるのか。

トークの後には、ニューヨークのフォーダム大学で美術史を教える池田安里先生をディスカッサントに迎え、アート、アクティビズム、記憶、そして性暴力に抗するフェミニスト実践の未来について、さらに議論を深めます。

このイベントは日本語ですが、英語の逐次通訳がつきます。

Tomorrow Girls Troop (TGT) is a global feminist artist–activist collective founded in 2015. They address East Asian gender issues through performance and media, aiming to reach audiences beyond the art world. Operating anonymously, members wear pink masks blending the Silkworm (symbolizing women’s labor) and the Rabbit. They adopt the names of deceased activists to protect their safety and ensure equal participation. This practice prevents attention from being diverted to personal details, keeping the focus strictly on the issues and their pursuit of equality.

Tomorrow Girls Troop（TGT）は、2015年に設立された国際的なフェミニスト・アーティスト／アクティビスト・コレクティブです。TGTのメンバーは匿名で活動しており、女性の労働を象徴する蚕とウサギを組み合わせたピンクのマスクを着用しています。また、故人となったアクティビストの名前を用いることで、メンバーの安全を守り、平等な参加を可能にしています。この匿名性は、個人の属性に注目が集まることを避け、問題そのものと平等の追求に焦点を当てるための実践でもあります。

Asato Ikeda is Associate Professor of Art History at Fordham University, New York and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Comparative Culture at Sophia University (July 2026). Her research interest lies in art and politics, broadly defined. She is the co-editor of Art and War in Japan and its Empire (2012), the co-author of A Third Gender: Beautiful Youths in Japanese Prints (2016), and the author of The Politics of Painting: Fascism and Japanese Art during the Second World War (2018). She has also published in Transgender Studies Quarterly and modernism/modernity.

池田安里氏は、ニューヨークのFordham University美術史学科准教授であり、上智大学比較文化研究所（2026年7月）の研究員でもある。池田氏の研究関心は、広義における芸術と政治の関係にある。主な著作として、共編著『Art and War in Japan and its Empire』（2012年）、共著『A Third Gender: Beautiful Youths in Japanese Prints』（2016年）、単著『The Politics of Painting: Fascism and Japanese Art during the Second World War』（2018年）がある。また、学術誌『Transgender Studies Quarterly』や『modernism/modernity』にも論文を発表している。

このイベントは上智大学比較文化研究所リサーチユニット“Sexual Harassment, Violence, and Consent: Japan in Cross-Cultural Perspective” と2026年度若手研究「恋愛・結婚の市場化における親密性の格差―恋愛経験のない若年男性の語りから」（26K21552）（代表者：小高麻衣子助教）の企画、比較文化研究所の主催です。

二次加害をなくすには：訴える声を阻む壁 

「２人で部屋に入ったあなたが悪い」「どうして逃げなかったの？」「あなたが訴えたら（加害者は）出世できなくなるんですよ！」

　性暴力を受けた人を打ちのめす二次加害の言葉は、あらゆるところから飛んできます。見て見ぬふりも加害に加担すること。孤立させる行為も当事者を傷つけます。その結果、職場復帰を諦めざるを得ないこともあるのです。二次加害が職を奪い、夢を奪っています。

　私たちは２月のシンポジウム「もう終わらせよう、メディア・芸能・芸術の構造的性暴力」に続き、今回は二次加害についてのイベントを企画しました。

二次加害は個人の無理解だけが原因ではありません。司法、メディア、SNS、相談窓口など、私たちの日常に潜む「沈黙を強いる構造」がつくり出す巨大な壁です。そんな社会を変えるために、一緒に考えましょう。
